The Interreg PREST Project

The Interreg project PREST: REgional Telluric Monitoring Plateform
Led by the Martinique Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris), this project aims to increase the response capacity of Caribbean territories to natural hazards.
To better understand the telluric hazards (volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides) in the Caribbean area, the OVSM/OVSG-IPGP has surrounded itself with partners: the CNRS, the ENS, the IRD, the GET, the ESEO, and 3 non-European organisations: the CENAIS in Cuba, the UEH and the BME in Haiti.

The objective of PREST project is to develop a regional research platform in geosciences :
- to place the region at the highest technological, collaborative and scientific level concerning earthquake, volcanic and tsunami hazards and risks
- define the regional instrumentation required for the implementation of integrated land/sea geophysical observations in the Antilles, in coordination with regional and European partners
- improve education, prevention, management and emergency response actions with specialists in the field.
